The Square Knot vs the Slip Knot

The slip knot is a very practical way to tie a suture knot, especially when there is a little bit of tension on the incision edges. It is important to note that the slip knot should never ‘remain’ that way, it should be coerce the slip knot back into a solid square knot. In my experience, the slip knot is commonly used ‘by accident’ when the veterinarian does not properly pull the suture ends to tighten a throw.
