Surgeon, Teacher, Speaker, Author, Industry Champion
Dr Sylvestre was born and raised in Montreal. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree before attending the Ontario Veterinary College at The University of Guelph where she completed her DVM degree in 1986. After acquiring 2 years’ working experience within small animal general practice, Anne returned to the OVC to do a rotating internship, followed by a small animal surgical residency and Doctor of Veterinary Sciences degree. She became board certified with the American and European Colleges of Veterinary Surgeons in 1994 and 1995 respectively. She was a clinical instructor of surgery at the University of Pennsylvania for 3 years and then returned to the OVC, this time as a faculty member.
In 1998, Dr Sylvestre opted to leave academia to start her own mobile surgical practice in Southwestern Ontario. During this time, she became certified in Canine Rehabilitation (CCRP) in order to better help her orthopedic patients.
In 2004, Dr Sylvestre became a founding partner of the Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital (often referred to as MOVEH). MOVEH allowed Anne to increase her reach and fulfill her goal of offering on-site rehabilitation services. In 2002, Dr. Sylvestre recognized the need for more veterinarians to be trained in certain surgical procedures commonly needed in general practices. This inspiration led to Focus and Flourish, a platform designed to help veterinarians excel in the art of surgery. Previously held in person but now offered virtually, Focus and Flourish is dedicated to creating practical surgical workshops that lead to successful clinical outcomes.
In 2017 Dr Sylvestre very proudly received the Humanitarian Award by the Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society.
Dr Sylvestre retired fully from clinical practice when COVID hit in 2020. Today, she is focused on workshop development for Focus and Flourish while enjoying her time in Costa Rica.
