Understanding how to properly stretch the hamstring of a dog can be a
useful tool as so many of out canine patients have stifle issues. In order to ambulate properly they need to be able to properly extend their stifles and the hamstring stretch will help with this. It is easiest to do this stretch with the patient in lateral recumbency.
With the limb hanging in a natural position, straighten out the stifle; keep the stifle joint gently extended and move the limb forward, flexing the hip joint.
Hold the stretch for 15 – 20 seconds. Repeat 2 more times.
