Course Description

Joanna Pyke, Physiotherapist, shares her expertise to bring you up to date and detailed information necessary to start doing rehabilitation work in your own practice. The rehabilitation workshop is taught in a relaxed and interactive manner.
This 1 day workshop focuses on:

  • Why rehabilitation is so beneficial to your patients.
  • We work on patient assessment including gait analysis and orthopedic examination.
  • Passive treatments will be discussed.
  • Various forms of active treatment exercises are examined including aquatic modalities.
  • The emphasis for the course is placed on understanding the process of rehabilitation and creating therapeutic protocols.
  • Most importantly, you will practice creating therapeutic protocols for various patients.

Who Is This Course For?

This course is designed for veterinarians and veterinary technicians. We encourage having several people from the same hospital attend. We believe that a team approach to rehabilitation produces better results.

Joanna (Freeman) Pyke PT, BSc. Kine., CCRP

A registered physiotherapist, Joanna Pyke has practiced physiotherapy and exercise science in a variety of settings since 1999. Much of her experience, and her passion, is in the field of canine rehabilitation. Currently, she works in outpatient orthopaedics with Halton Healthcare Services in Milton, Ontario and she also works as a consultant for the Companion Animal Rehabilitation Experts (CARE) of the Mississauga-Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital and Referral Group (MOVEH) as a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner and consultant (CCRP). After receiving her CCRP designation, she worked exclusively at a private canine rehabilitation clinic in Raleigh, North Carolina with orthopaedic and neurologic inpatients and outpatients.

Joanna received her CCRP designation when she completed the Certificate Program in Canine Physical Rehabilitation at the University of Tennessee (2004). Prior to this, Joanna’s academic accomplishments included a BSc. in Physical Therapy (with Distinction) from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario (2003); and a BSc. in Kinesiology from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia (1999).

Joanna takes great pride in her past, and present collaboration with veterinarians to ensure the utmost care of her animal patients. She enjoys teaching and contributing in the veterinary community. Most definitely, she is passionate about her animal patients and believes that clients’ education on their pets’ home exercise regime is a key component to their rehabilitation and lifelong health
