Lumpectomies and Closures (The Basics)

Course information:

This course uses narrated slides and videos to show the participant how to successfully and thoroughly remove benign subdermal and dermal masses in dogs and cats.  Closure techniques for basic and more difficult surgical wounds are also described.  (Advanced reconstructive techniques are not discussed in this workshop.)

Course Content:

  • Basic principles for excising a benign dermal or subdermal mass are described
  • The principles for removing a more aggressive mass are touched on.
  • Techniques for closing a simple surgical wound are reviewed.
  • Techniques for achieving a primary closure in more difficult surgical wounds are also described.
  • Closing techniques that should be avoided are enumerated.
  • The proper use of Jackson-Pratt and Penrose drains are described
  • Managing benign lumps in difficult areas is discussed.

Course Format:

  • This is a pre-recorded course.
  • A narrated slide presentation is used to make the necessary points.
  • Videos are embedded within the slide presentation to help demonstrate certain techniques

  • A narrated slide presentation in video format, which is approximately 60 minutes in duration.
